Founded with a vision to transform communities, ULISO was registered by the NGO Coordination Board in 2013. Initially serving the 6 counties in the former Nyanza Province, we have expanded our mandate to include Kiambu, Mombasa, Busia, and Nairobi, demonstrating our growing impact and commitment to nationwide development.
ULISO operates in 10 Kenyan counties, bringing transformative programs to diverse communities across the nation. Our head offices are strategically located in Homa-Bay County, serving as the hub for our operations.
ULISO foresees a prosperous society with an improved quality of life in Kenya.
‘A perfect African family is described by its health’. Similarly, ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child’. These African proverbs teach us the importance of defining the source of happiness – the wellness of the mother, child, and mental stability of a family unit.
ULISO has developed specialized expertise through years of hands-on experience in various community development and health programs:
We implement holistic programs in environmental conservation that directly impact community health, sustainable access to food and nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) initiatives, and socio-economic empowerment programs tailored especially for vulnerable groups like fisher-folks.
Our approach emphasizes community ownership. We conduct age-based and gender-sensitive behavioral change programs, organized mobile HCT (HIV Counseling and Testing) services, and operate standalone HCT outlets to improve health outcomes through accessible, community-centered solutions.
We invest in training community health workers, local leaders, and volunteers to create sustainable impact beyond our direct interventions, ensuring long-term benefits for the communities we serve.
ULISO's impactful work has been recognized and supported by several prestigious national and international organizations:
